MP3's vs. streaming audio

While MP3 is the standard for compressed CD-quality music, streaming audio is the standard for live broadcasting of internet audio.  To listen to most streaming audio you'll need either the Real Plus G2 or the Windows Media Player.  Your computer may already have streaming audio software currently installed.  If not, you can follow one of the links above and download a free copy.  We here at SquirrelNet recommend the Windows Media Player because it is not as prone to locking up a computer as the Real Plus G2.

Historical Note:  The two competing formats exist largely because the ever-behind-the-times Microsoft got their start by purchasing streaming audio technology from RealNetworks and then went on to develop their own standard that was incompatible with RealNetwork's format.

Much content is available in streaming format (visit NetRadio).
